Welcome to a new year, team HCD! And yes, you are fabulous!!!

We're off to a beautiful start for 2024, and we're so happy to have all of you with us! Lots to review for headlines and to help us prep for our team meeting next week. For starters, here is the schedule for January. Please let Kolina or I know if you have any questions regarding your schedule.

February will see all of our doctors out for a few days and other team members. Planning for this, we will have Megan helping at the front and back depending on the day and our need at that time. We're super excited to have her back even for a short while!

For our assistants, when your assigned doctor is out, you are welcome to come in if you would like the hours. This is the perfect time for training with our new team members and to help with other organizational tasks. If you want to have the time off, please fill out a form for the days you want or need off. Otherwise, we will move forward as if you are coming in.

February - Children's Dental Health Month

Speaking of February, it is Children's Dental Health Month and we will start scheduling times with our local schools for various presentations to different group sizes. If you're interested in attending, we would LOVE to have you, and the kids would LOVE to have you! Please talk with me to let me know what level you'd like to participate.

Effects of Vaping on the Mouth

Great information regarding the effects of vaping. The video is about 7 minutes and is a great introduction for those of us who don't know much about vaping's side effects. Not sure how much we talk about vaping as a team vs. smoking, but it is definitely something we can discuss with our patients. Please let me know if you'd be interested in learning more through a focused training at our team meeting.

Survey on Medical Insurance

As we look to renew our medical insurance benefit, we want to get your input on this benefit. Please follow this link to complete the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L7JMWSN. There's not a lot of space for long answers (one of the limitations from using free software... lol). If you'd like to give that information via text, please feel free to do so.

Paperwork in January

With the new years comes the reminders to complete annual forms. This includes:

  • PFD - you can sign up now!

  • W4 - any changes that I need to be made aware of regarding your semimonthly tax deductions and/or payments? If so, please complete one of these forms and turn it into me.

  • Life Insurance - Almost everyone here is participating with Principal Life minus those that haven't reached their 90-day mark. Are your beneficiaries up to date should - heaven forbid - something happen to you?

  • I-9 Updated - For some of us, the ID verification that was given on your first day of work may have expired. I'll have names of those that I need updated information from at our team meeting. I've included the link so you can see what form I'm referring to, if you have questions.

  • Hepatitis B Vaccinations - For those that are vaccinated, please read the following from the CDC. As we know, this is one of the most common diseases you'll come in contact with working in dentistry. If you have further questions on this, please speak with Dr. Henrie or Dr. Marchant.

Studies indicate that immunologic memory remains intact for at least 30 years among healthy people who initiated hepatitis B vaccination at less than 6 months of age (15). The vaccine confers long-term protection against clinical illness and chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Cellular immunity appears to persist even though antibody levels might become low or decline below detectable levels (16). There are ongoing long-term follow-up studies among vaccinated cohorts underway who initiated hepatitis B vaccination at birth, to determine the duration of vaccine-induced immunity (15).

Bring Your Goals to the Team Meeting

Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding what was discussed above. During our upcoming team meeting, we will have A LOT to go through for our training and reminders of protocols we currently have at HCD. Those 2 hours every other week are precious, and go by VERY quickly.

For our next meeting, please workshop with your department members to come up with your goals for the next year so we can discuss them as a team versus spending the whole meeting on them. If you need help with wording or ideas for your department goals, please speak with Dr. Henrie, Dr. Marchant or myself. We'd love to help you decide what's best for your team's growth and development into the best that you all can be.

Remember our goals for this year are meant to build upon the goals we accomplished last year, not to start over from scratch. We want to continue to progress and not become defeated because we can't change into something brand new. Baby bites... one step at a time... and all those good idioms.

This week please share with your team what your favorite idiom is.
